Traveling...

So I am in NJ this week, and clearly have not been good about working out. How can I get motivated to not be so lazy when I travel? I have 3 weeks of travel planned for May alone! ugh. I need to find it in me to try out some hotel gyms. Maybe I can review them...

Running on the runway.... well not really

So today I had signed up for a 5k at JFK. I am not in running shape (although, my run/walk routine is a step in the right direction!) so why did I sign up? because it was on the RUNWAY of JFK! How cool is that? So cool that even my mom decided she wanted in (this is huge). So we were going to walk it together, with Dave (my friend Megster was running it, clearly a champ).

Sadly we got an email last night that said the course had changed due to security concerns. So I didnt get to run on the runway :(

However, I did get a better understanding of where my competitive side comes from. My Mother. Who decided that she had to finish before all the people who weren't dressed appropriately for the race (i.e. carrying a Coach bag or wearing jeans) and towards the end wanted to know if she was in the front of the pack or back. She was QUITE upset to find out we were in the back (really it had to do with where we started, not our pace). meanwhile only she would wear diamonds and full makeup to a 5k. needless to say I got an ab workout in from laughing so hard.

I have worked out 4 days in a row and let me tell you. I am feeling it!

Change in route

We did over 8 miles!! Yay us!!

Just call me Lance

So today Dave and I are headed out for a bike ride! Finally its a nice (semi-warm) day. We tried to go last week only to discover I am surrounded by hills! These legs are not quite ready for a constant uphill battle (ha!) so I decided that we should go down by the beach to ride where its flatter.

Here is the route I planned for us:

Should be good! especially now that I got some new bike gloves and a seat bag (god forbid I leave my bberry or lipgloss at home!). Gotta look the part.

Now if only he would wake up from his little siesta on the couch :)

Day One

So after a truly beautiful weekend, the past 2 days were rainy and gross. Today was finally nice and I found my motivation to hit the gym. I did day one of my running plan: walk 6 minutes, run 1 minute repeat 3 times. (now please don't laugh, because I realize this is lame but I am really that out of shape when it comes to running).

Also, I signed up for this super cool looking race. I mean hello, running on the tarmac at JFK, super cool! http://www.jfkrunwayrun.org/

and my Bondibands came today!

Really this day was pretty awesome!

Beautiful Weekend...Motivation in full swing!

So it was a GORGEOUS weekend in CT, Dave was off from work, so motivation to be active outside was in full swing! Friday I came home from work and quickly changed into my workout clothes and set out for a long walk. well longer than the other ones I did this week. about 2.5 miles.

Saturday, Dave had to sleep in the morning so I cleaned and did errands (sunroof down, windows open, music pumping....LOVE IT). We did a decent walk in Cove Beach park when Dave woke up but had to leave after about 1.5 miles since I had drank to much water and it was too early in the season for the bathrooms to be open (read between the lines people).

Today we headed to Trumbull CT to hit the bike trails. Dave just got a new bike on Friday and was SUPER excited about this. Me, not so much. I haven't really 'biked' since Kiawah Island (if beach cruisers count as biking) and am a spin class drop out. I borrowed a bike and set out, slowly at first. Once I felt more comfortable, I was loving it. Dave looked super sporty in his bike gear and on his new bike (he told me to write that). I ended up buying the bike from our friends so apparently now I am a biker!

Great active weekend which resulted in both me and Dave taking a lovely nap this afternoon!

Run Training day one is scheduled for tomorrow!

TGIF!!!

Happy Friday! Happy Spring! Left work early and did a 2 mile walk around the condo complexes. Fresh Air felt so good. '

Also, super excited for my Bondiband Headband! Megster and I ordered them today and they are totally going to change our lives! http://www.bondiband.com/index.php

Training Plan....Feeling Motivated

So I posted on my FB page that I had signed up for my first 5k. The support I got is amazing! Well "support" meaning how many people "Like" my status. Like I said, a lot of my friends are runners.

I did some digging around to find a training plan. I literally do not run. at all. not even when forced. I have tried but failed in the past. so I need a more than beginner plan. and here it is:

Week one: Walk for 6 minutes, then jog at an easy pace for 1 minute. Repeat 3 times. Aim for three sessions with that same sequence for week one.

Week two: Walk for 5 minutes, then jog for 2 minutes. Repeat 3 times. Aim to do three sessions in week two.

Week three: Walk for 3 minutes, then jog for 4 minutes. Repeat 4 times. Aim for four sessions in week three.

Week four: Walk for 2 minutes, then jog for 5 minutes. Repeat 4 times. Shoot for four of those sessions in week four.

Week five: Walk for 2 minutes, then jog for 8 minutes. Repeat 3 times. Do four of those sessions in week five.

Week six: Walk for 2 minutes, then jog for 9 minutes. Repeat 3 times. Try to do four sessions for week six.

Week seven: Walk for 1 minute, then jog for 11 minutes. Repeat 3 times. Do four sessions this week.

Week eight: Congratulations on making it to week eight! For your first run this week, try walking for 5 minutes to begin and end the workout, and run for 20 minutes in between. By the end of the week, try to run for 30 minutes without stopping.
Aim to run for 30 minutes four times a week, and you'll notice that your stamina and fitness will continue to improve

8 weeks seems like a long time but hopefully slow and steady will win the race! and by win, I mean finish! :)

Spring Fever

The past few days have been SUPER nice, very spring like. Yesterday Dave and I took a nice walk when I got home from work. Today I went again. And signed up for a 5k. Lately I have been feeling like I should get into running. A lot of my friends do it, I love being outside, I need to get in shape....the list can go on.

So now its time to get seriousness and not look like a fool at this race. Because nothing is worse than looking like a fool, well except looking like a fat fool.

Biggest Loser....the resort?

So I heard about the Biggest Loser resort and decided to check it out. I am pretty much obsessed with going there! It is in Utah (not too far outside Vegas which for some reason I find to be hilarious, since that is probably the least healthy place in the country). Basically its like the day in the life of the Biggest Loser, your days are filled with working out, hiking, healthy nutrition and more working out. My question is do you think that really unfit and unhealthy people can hack it there? I mean it seems pretty intense. I am tempted to try it, too bad there is a $2000 price tag on it!

On the road again...

So for the month of a January I am sleeping in a hotel for a total of 7 nights. For work only. crazy! They do not pay me enough.

I am sick of eating on the road and need a plan of attack! No more eating bagels for breakfast and the fries need to go.

ugh.
